<br />Manes - Teeth, Toes and Other Trinkets

MANES- Teeth, Toes and other Trinkets- CD/ Digital ( D.M.P Productions)

So this is a compilation of unreleased, live and remixed songs before a proper full length coming int 2014... If you like the very Post Metal Avant side of the band then its a  must own what I hear are elements of In the Woods, Ulver,  Later Fleurety,  Star of Ash, Canaan,  3rd and the Mortal with a bunch of trip hop and electro pop going on for good measure this is not metal in anyway.  If you want the metallic side of Manes they did a album on Avantgarde called Manii get that .  There are jazz and minimalist moments even. Manes is so damn haunting in the same way Ulver as mastered  Trip Hop, Electro, Post Rock and metal into something that is all their own. Manes is a band that gives me chills . They are just so original and talented so very glad to have them back and 2014 is going to be an adventure for sure...

Solstafir- In Blood and Spirit-CD/ Digital ( Season of Mist)

What if you woke up one morning and decided to mix Hardcore, Crust, Post Punk , Black metal and the Discord records sound into a band and tell the world either listen or don't ..... Welcome to the world of Solstafir. This album just kicks so much major ass I can not begin to explain it . It sounds like if Fugazi,  Swervrdriver and Velvet Cacoon  formed a band and had the love of Amrep label. This band is something that is drawing me in and will not let go. It's Disturbing, Catchy and Distant all at the same time. I want to call this music for a fractured mind and maybe this is why I enjoy it so. The vocals are tortured to say the least and they are more crust and noise rock in presentation but over all this is a very loud and painfilled release. I'm a stronger and wiser person for the chance to listen and explore this album. Season of Mist do not lose this group to the shadows of indie promotion as they deserve so much more.  Get this now do not wait a moment do you hear me . This album is worth the money and so much more...

Immortal Bird- Akrasia- CD/ Digital ( Closed Casket Recordings)

Prog Black Death in the most stellar of fashions if you like bands like Agalloch, Atheist and Pestilence with have doses of bands like Mayhem and Ishahn for good measure even some Edge of sanity elements going on here. Immortal Bird even go into the bands like Fen and Gorguts. This is so much more then I expected to hear in this release and I want to hear nothing but more from this band. There are movements that remind me of early Carcass and Entombed as well.  There is a complexity to this album that makes its all the more special. Death metal mix with thrash is really at the root of the bands primary sound. Post black metal with a very eclectic and thinking man's metal approach is were Immortal bird comes all together.  What makes it all the more kick as is these vocals are sung by a women beyond scorned. 4 songs is far to short. We need more ASAP.

Kult- Unleashed from Dismal Light - CD/ Digital (Folter Records)

Raw Blistering Black metal with a heavy dose of raw thrash and punk in all of this just for good measure . If you like you black metal a wall of noise and aggression you have found the right band. This reminds me of the 90's Swedish and Polish Black metal movement even some of the eastern European stuff were it was all about the speed and Ice cold melodies, brutality and hatred that metal music could present to the world. The bleak outlook on all around them just makes the release all the more compelling to listen to and get into. Sometimes Black metal is just that music that is loud, pissed of and against the world don't over think it . Kult has just made a brilliant Black metal album that could have been on Osmose, Avantgarde or Candlelight in the 90's and sometimes we just need more of this. Horns up high for this one!!!

Heart of a Coward- Severance-CD/ Digital ( Century Media)

So if Strapping Young Lads and Meshuggah had a love child it would be Heart of a coward. There is really no other way to say it. They mix Post Hardcore, Prog Metal and Power metal into something that is all it's own and very similar at the same time. This album is as heavy as hell and just as melodic and riff driven. Do any of you remember Orange 9mm or Quicksand there are moment were I swear ex members of those bands have made a darker more aggressive version of those bands. There are also so many riff that could have come from Nevermore or Machine head as well. Century media you have me hooked of the this ultra Drum and bass heavy release. The prog elements are more Meshuggah and Jesu in the presentation as well.  I could talk about this album for days but in the end you need to hear it to really understand the power and beauty that is created and performed by Heart of a Coward. Now just get the damn album,,,
