Skeletal Spectre- Voodoo Dawn- CD/ Digital ( Pulverised)

This a wall of 90's Swedish Death metal. If long for the days of albums but Dismember and Entombed you will Worship Skeletal Spectre. As the band has the same guitar and bass tone  as Dismember and the vocals straight out of Entombed. There is a major melody going on as well.  There are elements of Bands like Katatonia and Amorphis the flow through out the release as well. There is one thing that is very clear. Skeletal Spectre is a Death metal unit that has the skill and over all creativity to make an album that doesnt not bore or sound like very thing else out there today. With Voodoo Dawn you have waves of Death, Thrash, Black metal and even Classic Power metal in the way the songs are presented and with this album they have put a solid foot forward in a long and fruitful history in the metal realm.

Kylesa- Ultravaiolet-CD/ Digital ( Season of Mist)

Sludge metal is normally not this complex or diverse. With Kylesa you get a band from two worlds a band that likes bands like Eyehategod, Crowbar, Neurosis and Mastodon and then a very Prog and Psychedelic side with bands like Pink Floyd,  US Christmas and Porcupine Tree . The Riff rules supreme on this Kylesa album more then ever before I want you call this a Prog Doom album and with Ultravaiolet we may finally have just that.  The organic growth and flow of this album is 2nd to none. There is always a huge Blues and Southern rock elements going on here I almost want to say that bands like Alabama thunderpussy, Monster Magnet and Queens of the Stone age played a major role on the outcome of this Kylesa album.  I want to call them the Spiritual Beggars of Sludge metal and when you hear the album you will see why this have been said. Fantastic release by a mightily underrated band from USA..

Graveyard of Souls- Shadows of life-CD/ Digital ( FDA Rekotz)

So from a band out of Spain we get an Atmospheric Slow Death metal band with moments of Scifi and Doom but never fully going that direction. They remind me very much of Mid Period Paradise lost and Moonspell were they mixed elements of Death, Black and Doom with Goth and Symphonic movements and you now have the 21st century verison with Graveyard of Souls. There is no mystery to their sound is one that you will either love or run from as its as epic as depressive . I really like the layers that are going on through out the release and Shadows of Life does tell a story of loss, hope and sorrow all at the same time. The synth work and guitar interplay is really wonderful. It alway has the Silent Enigma Anathema sound from time to time. I'm glad I got the chance to review and hear this as it will be a harder album to find on a smaller label but well worth the challenge to get it and put it to many listens..

Chthonic- Bu- Tik-CD / Digital (Spinefarm)

Taiwan is not the 1st place I think for Complex extreme metal . Well folk with Chthonic this just what you get. If you can mix element of Emperor, Thyrfing, Inflames, Cradle of Filth and Sigh all into a big pit of excellence you have this breath taking band. I'm floor at how this comes together and how futurist is does sound. Chthonic is a band that words really do fail to create the visionary and just majesty sound and style that this band presents us. I this will sound a bit odd bit imagine if Iced Earth became a blackened Death metal band they would be damn close to this. Even the artwork kicks ass and years there are oriental sound that mix into the music and make it all the more power of of a journey.  There is a kinship with Bilocate in the sound of this band too so if you like this Check them out as well. Ok enough said get it now before you miss out any longer.

Lord  Dying- Summon the faithless-CD/ Digital (Relapse Records)

On the top of Mt Sludge across from the Doom river comes Lord Dying this is what would happen is Celtic Frost was a full on Epic Sludge Noise band in the mix of the other sounds that have shown the world. There are so many bands that have pieces of what Lord Dying are creating His Hero is Gone, Black Cobra, Electric Wizard there are even moments of bands like Today is the day and The Sword going on here. There is a groove element but nothing that makes the album stoner just enhances the over all sound of the band. Lord Dying has a very being love of all things thrash as well. They would go very well with label mates Howl on Relapse and maybe is a tour that should come about . Good metal is never a crime and great metal like this needs to be more widely exposed so we get more and more.
