Voivod- Target Earth- CD ( Century Media)
So this french Canadian Sci fi thrash metal force has been going strong for over 20 yrs now and with the death of piggy I was very worried but with Target Earth we have a album that hits two points of Voivod's very diverse sound a mix of Nothingface were the post metal sound was born for them and negatron were eric sang for them a darker more industrial metal came into focus. I think at times they mix in the very under rated outer limits sound to which is a more prog sound without being so metallic . Having blacky back on bass does really add that complex avant low end. Nothing against jason or eric both made amazing albums in the phases on the band they were in. The experimentation in Voivod will next end but with this album they are trying out jazz, post rock and alt rock in ways that really work well. The art of away is always briliant . Century media this is almost like a rebirth for the band I hope they have your backing for yrs to come. They need good promotion and distro as Voivod are one of the most compelling music acts ever.

Defeated sanity- Passage of deformity- CD ( Willowtip)
What if you could just one moment make the most over the top technical death metal with vocals that match bands like broken hope or early death.. well my friends if you like were atheist or pestilence went with there music but never left the grind, death, guttural overtones welcome to the world on Defeated Sanity. Jazz and modern death metal with amazing guttural vocals. Wow Willowtip records what have i've been missing all these yrs. I know this will me way to intense for most but the music is so dynamic I can not stop listening to it. Death metal of this variety really does have a melody and soul. You just have to be that select person to hear it. DEFEATED SANITY YOU NEED TO MAKE MORE!!!

Well Well Well welcome to Grindcore my friends as we have a band that loves the world of Napalm Death, Nasum, His Hero is Gone, Man is is the bastard and even Brutal Truth is what we have going on here if Grind and Blast beats are what your looking for welcome home. This is extreme because they want to be not because they have to be. There is a structure and talent to Nolentia is not just a a wall of noise and that makes them stand out in a sea of many 90's and 00 UK and So Calif Noise mongers. I really like the low end that Noentia presents in their music and they seem to have love for Crust Punk as well which takes them into a more open ended production and theme. Glad I got to hear this as Nolentia are more what labels like Slap a ham or Earache would have been releasing 20 yrs ago.

Wolvserpent - Perigaea- Demo 2012
As we all should know by now Wolvserpent has signed with Relapse Records for thier next full album this 5 song Demo is a stop gap for the world to hear the new madness being created by Blake and Brittany this duo make Black Drone Doom with a very bit nod to bands like Thergothon, Ras Algethi and Ancient Wisdom in the way its alll created . These seem to be rough tracks of what the new Album coming in 2013 will be like. They have that Earth and Melvins vibe going on as well. They are from Boise Idaho and that is an odd land to say the least. In the summer it doesnt get dark till well over 10 pm and it not something you just get use to. Its the Desert, rivers , mountains and snow all mixed into one. The fuzzed out hypnotic elements of this band will always make you know who they are the organs and strings give me that funeral doom vibe but the music just get so organic and have this sick groove to it in a way that only full on experimental metal ever could. If Graveland or Burzum became a doom band it would sound like this I'm sure. I just love Wolvserpent live the two times I've been honored to seem them. This really give me that live feeling. If I could say mix Neurosis, Thergothon, Sonic Youth and Burzum into a pot stir and I some you would have created the force known as Wolvserpent!!!
Paganland- Wind of Freedom-CD ( Svarga)
Pagan Viking metal with a heathen and ethinic element second to none is going on here. As a follower of Asatru this band is making my heart grow warmer by the moment. Paganland has been around since 1997 and are from The Eastern Russian land on Ukraine .. You can hear the battle sounds and hymns of Power metal , Symphonic metal, Folk/ Viking metal and Elder Gods in all that is said and played within this songs. All good music of this genre or ideal have those great Polka beats that go along with what they created. If you like Vintersorg, Tyr or Falkenbach then Paganland is a music listen. I really don't have much more to say about this then the Old ways to tell tales and stories are normally the best even in the modern age . Respect Paganland and get his album and the others before.
Mustasch- Sounds like Hell looks like Heaven-CD ( Metalville)
Epic Power/ Prog Metal with a Strong dose of 70's Area rock and symphonic elements. Imagine for a Moment if Deep Purple, Monster Magnet, Amorphis, King X and Rhapsody all could be focused into a heavy low end band that loves Kyuss and Cheap Trick all at the same time that would just begin to crack the surface of what Mustasch is trying to give to the world. This is comes of the catchy rock and roll in years. I did love the last album I heard by this four piece of ultra talented Swedes. If you miss late 80's hard rock as well this gentlemen will quill that hunger with that as well. Its a mix of Metal, Rock and Thrash that is works so well. Sometimes the Melody is just as important as the brutality and with Mustasch the fusing of both is what makes it a full on winner.
