Abstracter- Tomb of Feathers- Digital only (The Path Less Traveled Records)
Ah music to this reviewers ears blackened crusty
sludge doom that is what Cavity, noothgrush and crowbar have been
creating for year with a mix of bands like Killing Joke and
Jesu for good measure. Its as crushing as melodic and hypnotic in the
presentation of the songs. This is Doom do not get me wrong as times
I think the take a nod from bands like Wolvserpent and Neurosis in
the way the layers and emotion flows form the 3 epic tracks . Love
the low end bass rumble , guttural / blackened vocals, the dirgy and
harmonic guitars with a drummer the changes the timing sometimes 2-3
times a song. Abstractor this is a win win win. I know the CD and
Vinyl versions will be out in 2013 but that's too long get
the digital album or miss out..
Tsar Bomb- Neowarfare-CD (bad God Music)
So when grind and death metal come home to roost in a black metal compound we get Tsar Bomb. This is one fast and pissed off unit from Spain. The vocals are just pure venom and the music goes from light speed to complex tech death metal to old school Black/Death you would get from Marduk, Saytricon from there middle period.. The Basslines are over the top in the way Strapping young lads or Meshuggah does them. Tsar Bomb are all over the map musically and I love it. Punk, Black, Death, Prog and Futurist at the same time. What more can you want . Give it a chance.
Posthum- Lights out-CD (Indie Recordings)
Atmospheric/Ambient Post Black metal in the way bands like like Code , Saytricon or even Manes was heading but there is something more distant and drifting about the sounds that Posthum records almost in a Burzum or Fen or Alcest .. Lights out draws you in with is progressive elements and jazzy/laid back grooves in the most tormented of blackened metallic layers. Bands like Posthum give me hope for the underground/indie extreme music scene as a whole for experimentation and growth.. Were Posthum goes no one will know but I will travel with them . I going to end it with this if the foo fighters made a black metal album it would sound like this that how left field this album is to me... Get this or you lose in life.
Vision of Disorder- The Cursed remain cursed-CD (Candlelight)
So New York's Prodigal Post Hardcore son's return with a new album about a decade after they turned a corner musical none should ever have to speak of Stoner/Groove metal. Well if you can remember the Roadrunner V.O.D days they are band to the slam riffs, metalcore mojo and hardcore roots to make any hardened Sick of it all, Biohazard, Madball or Leeway fan rejoice to hear The cursed remain cursed. Get the circle pits ready and your going to need to prove your crews value again in the area... Everything you loved about V.O.D is back they catchy riffs, the sung and hardcore vocals, the blood sweat and tears, the vengance, the melody and drive to call them NYC POST HARDCORE!!!. Glad to have you back and my CBGB's band in my corner. I will be listening this to a lot.....

The Secret- Angus Dei-CD (Southern Lord)
What the fuck did I get my self into with this album. Its a wall of sonic pain, nightmares, violence and just a huge aural kick in the ass. Damn there isn't inch on space for anyway but guitars, drums, bass and vocals that sound like they are commanding you what to do. The Secret is Doom inspired Black Thrash with a Noise Rock worship going on. I can not even come to say how heavy this release is and the production is second to none. I want to smash my head against a rock when listening to Angus Dei ... Warning it maybe to much album for some people as once you listen there is no way or hope to come back the same.. Horns up high on this one folks!!!

Fontanelle- Vitamin F- CD (Southern Lord)
So ex members of Jessamine create the love child of John Zorn, Morphine, Ulver, 70's Porn music and Early Genesis.. Jazz and Trip hop play a big part of what we have here. I would have never thought this would be on Southern Lord ever but then the label is here to confuse and impress which they mostly do. Horns, Drums, Bass and tripped out guitars.. Fontanelle its Jazzy Space rock that I would expect from bands like Subarachinoid Space, Hawkwind and US Christmas. If you have ever heard Xploding Plastix Then you will love this and know where I'm going with this as that is what Fontanelle fully remind me of in composition and songwriting. Check this out I think you will be blown away by the talent of this unit.

Darsombra- Climax Community-CD (Exile on Mainstream)
So if I was stuck to tell you what Darsombra sounds like I would have to say if you mix Ritualistic Ethnic Music, Drone/Drift Ambient Industrial and Doom metal with touch of 70's Prog it would come real close to where Darsombra comes in the musical spectrum on 2012.. this is Guitars, Bass, Synths and Chanting is a very majestic setting. The band likes to use the title Transcendental and I would agree . Do you like Artists like Mandible Chatter, Steve Roach, Sunn O)), Troum etc then you get where I'm going with this even Earth they have a lot in common with. The early works of House of Low Culture remind me of Darombra too. I would love to see what James Plotkin could do with this band as he is the master of the Post Experimental Guitar Droning for me. He also could produce the hell of out an album for them. With Darsombra there is a minimalist perfection going on and I hope they never lose that. This duo make some of the best Spacey Drift Doom on this earth never forget that
