Walk Through Fire - Furthest From Heaven (Album Cover)

Walk through fire- Furthest from Heaven-CD (Aesthetic Death)

Another release from Aesthetic Death that mixes the elements of  Doom, Black and Avant Metal with ambiance and industrial elements. Walk through fire are all about pain, loss and the confrontation of opposing sounds all at the same time. If Neurosis was a Black metal band I think they would clearly sound like this. There is a strong kinship to bands like Weakling and Dolorian going on here. This album is powerful in the way rituals to the Gods of old are powerful to those that envoke them.  "Furthest from heaven" is a very personal album in the way its presented. The music goes from delicate to epic and crushing . Love the acoustics and deep tones that mix with wall of low end sonic guitars and vocals that are of the Post hardcore style.  The drumming is the most ritual is presentation of all things going on here. The album is so massive and full in sound you can feel the sorrow coming from the very speaker. This is not an album to miss.

Wreck Of The Hesperus - Light Rotting Out (Album Cover)

Wreck Of The Hesperus - Light Rotting Out-  A5 Digipak CD (Aesthetic Death)

Wow a pure black doom band I not heard this in a while. That last one would be Ancient Wisdom or maybe Heirophant. This could almost call funeral doom as its that slow but its missing the organs to present that sound.  Wreck of The Hesperus has much to do with the sickness in music that are bands like Bethlethem, Shining (Sweden) or  Deinonychus with a strong love of Burzum and Darkthrone .. At time I swear the just reworking Thergothon ideas into a blackend arena. I was not ready for this to be so hate filled and just down right pissed of. The vocals are of a man close to eternal damnation. Love the molasses like way the music ebbs and flows. Slow doom is just want make me happy in this sick and corrupted mind.  Most will find this a journey they can not travel and it will drive them mad. For this reviewer this is nothing more special they painfully slow doom that can rip the very soul from your body.. The drums are so cold and the drone of the bass and guitar .. Ahhhh yesssss. Get this now....

ZWEIZZ & JOEY HOPKINS- S/T-CD (Jester Records)

Well what the hell do you think your going to get from Jester records. Its experimental, avant, noisy , jazzy and pulsing electronic madness. If you like Power noise and Industrial Doom then this collab will just punt you to the floor. It has so much in common with an amazing band called Phantomsmashers and Venetian Snares. I would call this Electro Breakcore with some full on Power noise elements. Love the eastern elements mixed in with the full decomposed drum and loops going on.  If you like When you will hear a lot of this worship going on as well.  Too bad this can never happen again as Joey Hopkins passed away before another can be created. This is a brilliant testimonial to a team of musician that can make the impossible possible. I love this release its twisted, original and just done right inventive and there could be not better home for this then Jester records.  Enough said...

Aurvandil- Yearning- CD (Eisenwald)

I know some bands like this get into a similar sound or ideal due to the use of the term post black metal but with Aurvandil there is an elements of the hypnotic, frozen, occult and ethereal all in the same piece of the same song. Bands like Aurvandil from the Heathen world of old and feed us the lore and myth of a time when the world was about adventure, mystery and the unknown. Aurvandil is music for the warrior in all of us if we just let it out. Folk, Viking, Black and Avant metal are all bleeding from the songs of these metallic craftsmen. Falkenbach, Burzum, Leviathan etc these are the bands that Aurvandil embrace and live by there codes. Let the viking warship set sail and the next journey continue we need bands and music like this just to not forget....

Locus Mortis- Inter Utterum Et Loculum-CD (ATMF)

Haunting and Not of this world are the 1st two thoughts that come to mind when I listen to Locus Mortis. This is thinking mans Black metal and odd term I know but its so layered in the way its presented . I really don't have a way of explaining it in a better fashion. There is melodic, blistering riffs, throat griping vocal, harmonies and darkened ethereal tones all going at the same time.  Locus Mortis is the some of all parts and as you listen to it more and more it draws you in like a moth to a flame. Bombastic is but just one element going on here. These kind of songs are where lost battles come from and rip there ugly heads back up centuries later. Locus Mortis is a war machine of metal never once think different but even a war machine has moments of beauty and brilliance and its all here my friends its all here...

Enablers- Blown Realms And Stalled Explosions-CD (Exile on Mainstream)

Hell ya Enablers are back with another album of Post Rock, Spoke word poetry and just down right awesomeness...  Yes this is the same band that put out two the best albums of the Neurot label period.  If like  bands like Oxbow , Polvo , The Doors and Rodan then you must run and not walk to get this I with all truth in what's left in my heart think Exile on Mainstream is becoming one of my all time favorite labels with the experimental rock and noise rock they are releasing there taking the void of labels like 1/4 stick, Amrep, SST, Subpop and Matador. The soft jazzy elements mixed in with the heavy Post rock sounds of bands like Slint, Russian Circles, Set fire to flame etc.. Love the deep and thought provoking spoken words that are match only by the stellar guitar, bass and drum work.  The Beat poets in the heavens or hell below smile just a bit when they hear Enablers (San Frans finest sons!!)
