ENCOFFINATION

http://www.myspace.com/encoffination

1. I know nothing of the band ENCOFFINATION; tell us how this guttural doom force came to be?

We rose from the foulest pits of abomination in the bleak year of the lorde 2009. Myself and the Elektrokutioner forged a rotten pact to craft the sounds of the grave. We both play in other bands/projects together but felt we needed this polluted amalgam of death and doom to feel truly one with death.

2. To these ears you remind me of Brutal Grinding Doom like old Incantation, Disembowelment or an amazing band called Womb. There are elements of many others but the point I make its ultra low, bassy and bombastic. What are the influences you had?

While we listen to the groups mentioned, we feel that the only musical influence on Encoffination is Encoffination. Each song we write is only influenced by the song before it; the next album will indeed only be based upon Ritual Ascension Beyond Flesh. We do not let any outside influence creep into what we write. These songs are based on the visions I conjure and any similarity to other bands is purely by coincidence that we play similar styles of death metal. Aesthetically, Encoffination is influenced by many things: death, burial, ascension, purgatory, etc… I take the elements and I create a musical feeling of the images in my mind. We want you to feel death; to feel the cold caress of the grave as our doom brings to a close the lid to your tomb.

3. Your new full length I just reviewed "Ritual Ascension Beyond Flesh" is on Self Made God; a smaller Eastern European label more known for Grind and Death Metal. How did you come to work with them?

They came to us. I was familiar with them through their bands, but to put it simply, they presented an offer to release the CD version of the album and we accepted. We had several offers but SMG was serious in what they wanted to do and they made it happen extremely fast. We could not be happier with their effort.

To those who do not know however, this album was first released on cassette by Ritval Death Offerings, limited to 333 copies. It is still available, but close to sold out. Additionally, the LP version is at press now with Psychedelic Lotus Order, a small boutique vinyl label based in China. We have worked with them in the past with other bands and they are excellent. Expect the LP to be ready around the same time as the CD.

4. ENCOFFINATION seem to like the vinyl format. Is it that 7" and Lp's of Doom just so much warmer and brutal on the wax?

Listening to vinyl takes work. If people cannot be bothered to put a record on a turntable and fucking sit down and listen to it, then we simply do not need them as fans. Not to say that CDs or MP3s or iPods are bad, because I use all of these items too, but vinyl makes the music tangible. You can feel it, touch it, worship it. We will of course release digital media of Encoffination, but every Encoffination release will be available on vinyl.

5. The Molasses like Guitar and Guttural vocal approach has not been used in many years. I remember a lot of great doom bands doing it. Thergothon, Evoken, Old Anathema etc. Is this to pay homage to the great doom of old?

No, it is simply how what we do works. I am not paying homage to anything. If those bands (of which, I am a fan of all three, especially Thergothon) did not exist, Encoffination would still sound the way we do. My voice is that of death. How would you sound from inside a tomb?

6.There is very little info on the web about you other than simple Myspace page and Self Made God on their official website doesn't even mention you yet?? Do you feel you need a stronger Web presence to get the info to your fans?

Yes, a proper website will be available soon. We seem to get what we need done without one, but I am a web designer, so I figure I will make one someday. Bands existed 10 years ago with nothing but addresses and phone numbers, it is absurd that now bands have websites, myspace pages, facebook pages, twitter accounts, tumblr sites, and iTunes accounts before they even release a fucking demo.

7. Will ENCOFFINATION be performing live at all I know as a duo it will be heard maybe friends to help out live ?

We have no current plans to play live, but it is not outside the realm of possibility. If/when we do play, it will ONLY be as a duo. Encoffination is Ghoat and Elektrokutioner and none else.

8. Doom seems to be very much in the underground again do you prefer it that way or do you miss the Peaceville / Avantgarde Days when Doom was growing in the mids 90's?

We are a death metal band. We sound nothing like any band of this age. We have doom elements, yes, but ultimately we play American death metal. Just slowly. I miss or long for nothing. Only the cold embrace of the crushed velvet that lines my final resting place.

9. If there was a theme running on "Ritual Ascension Beyond Flesh" what would it be and why?

…death.

10. Do you think the digital age of music and promotion is hurting or helping indie and I mean real underground bands trying to produce quality releases to the public?

It certainly helps, but it makes it effortless. As I said above, not even a decade ago, bands had to work to get something done. Word of mouth. No one wants to do anything for themselves. They want to record songs, upload them, and then cash a check. But I am just as guilty. We did the SMG deal through MySpace and email. Of course it helps bands, but I am bitter because every piece of human trash now thinks they can start bands and own record labels and put on festivals. It bastardizes the entire process.

Eventually the swill will separate itself. The weak will perish and the ignorant will exterminate themselves. They can have their iTunes and energy drink sponsored tours. We will play putrid death metal in rotting crypts and relish every second.

11. Thank you for the time any closing thoughts here....

Tune low, play slow. Invite the hand of death into thine
